The Audiovisual Producers Finland (APFI) partnered with Inklusiiv to develop inclusive recruitment training and tools tailored to the audiovisual sector. The aim was to help industry professionals apply fair and inclusive practices in their hiring work.
Starting point: a more diverse and equitable audiovisual sector
Audiovisual Producers Finland (APFI) represents Finnish content producers in film and television. As part of their Avaus project, APFI aims to strengthen diversity and equity in the field. This begins with opening doors to talent from different backgrounds.
Inklusiiv began by reviewing existing Avaus materials, including a checklist for unconscious bias and a recruitment and onboarding guide for audiovisual workplaces. This ensured the inclusive recruitment training and additional tools created addressed real industry needs and complemented what APFI had already built.
“From the first meeting, it was clear that Inklusiiv understood our needs. They spoke our language, which made the collaboration smooth from the very beginning,” said Roosa Tikanoja, Avaus Project Manager, APFI.
Practical, tailored inclusive recruitment training for industry professionals
The training helped participants:
- Understand key concepts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and their relevance in audiovisual work
- Recognize common recruitment practices that can limit diversity
- Identify concrete actions to make hiring processes more inclusive
The session included legal context, group discussions, and individual reflection. Feedback highlighted that the content was relevant and easy to apply in daily work.
“Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The training was clear and well paced. Inklusiiv’s experts created an inclusive environment that encouraged personal reflection. It helped participants feel that inclusive recruitment doesn’t have to be overwhelming, small steps are a good place to start.” – Roosa Tikanoja, Avaus Project Manager, APFI
Tools to support consistent and fair recruitment
Inklusiiv also introduced inclusive recruitment tools co-developed with audiovisual professionals. These support consistent evaluation and fair decision-making throughout the hiring process.
The tools include:
- Templates for interview questions and evaluation
- Guidance on reducing bias and documenting selection decisions
They are designed for those involved in recruitment – such as producers, line producers, heads of department, and casting professionals – and can be used from the early planning stage through to final selection.
“Inclusive recruitment is a complex topic, but Inklusiiv made it approachable and actionable. The training and tools were grounded in expertise but designed for everyday use.” – Roosa Tikanoja, Avaus Project Manager, APFI
The job interview tools are available online (in Finnish).
APFI has strengthened their role as an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the audiovisual field and continues working toward structural and cultural change. Inklusiiv is proud to support APFI as their strategic partner.
